Playing On The Bridge

Soccer season has returned and wouldn't you know it, neither boy has practice on the same night.  So...on Sam's night, Benny and I found ourselves with a couple of hours to kill.

We watched practice for an hour. We played games on the ITouch.  Then we walked over to our favorite spot, our new Veteran's Memorial Bridge.

The bridge joins our nice big rec park with the somewhat smaller "field" that the kids play soccer in.  (It is a donated patch of land connected to a chicken plant.  Parents are campaigning for some luxuries to be added to the field...things like benches or bleachers to sit on.  And lights.  But still. We are grateful to have a place to play.)

Anyway.  The bridge is very elegant in an understated way, and Benny and I like to stand on the bridge and play sticks.  Adapted from Winnie The Pooh, this is of course the game where you both toss sticks in the water and see who's floats out from under the bridge first.

Benny usually wins!

The Coosawattee River runs under the bridge.

It was a nice night and the light was great.  Benny and I took some photos:

That's a blurred Benny in the background, tossing rocks into the water.  What boy on earth can be near water without throwing rocks into it?  That's what it's there for!

Marty was invited to the opening ceremony of the bridge because he was instrumental in donating some  beams to the cause.

Benny and I also visited the work-in-progress stone garden at the foot of the bridge; honoring soldiers from the area that date all the way back to the Revolution.

Benny took that picture.  He is actually quite the photographer and has a great eye.

Then I took his.

Then he took mine!

And another night in the lovely spring air (which has been so hard to come by lately) was tucked away.

Love that bridge!

Aww...love this post! First off, love the bridge. And very cool that Marty was a part of it.

Also, love reading about what seems like such a sweet, quiet time with you and Benny. Before we know it, these kids are going to have driver's licenses and will be taking themselves here and there and everywhere without us. I'm sure soccer practices get a bit long and tedious, but love that you get one-on-one time with your boys on gorgeous spring nights. And love that Benny is still little enough to throw sticks in the river with his mom.

A good mama can take a dull day and turn it into a pleasant memory. Just like this :)
